Mr. Foust searched for a solution for his wife's battle with MCS (multiple chemical sensitivity) in the early 1970s. When he couldn't find a solution, he invented the early version of the 160R2 room air purifier in 1974 and founded the E.L. Foust Co. The concept was and still is simple. Direct air through a large bed of activated carbon allowing it to adsorb chemicals, fumes and odors. In our 160R2 unit, we use 7 pounds of carbon to remove fumes and odors quickly. We also don't use plastics or glues in our units to make sure that our unit is not introducing any new off gasses to your environment.

Since 1974, we have been helping people who suffer from MCS. Many people who start out trying to purify their environment buy a HEPA air filter at the local box store, but find it doesn't freshen their environment. That is because HEPA filters will filter particulates, but they don't remove fumes and odors. Through adsorption, fumes and odors attach to the activated carbon. Our purifiers also have particulate filters to remove small particles from your environment and even a UV light option on our 400 series unit to remove fungus, bacteria and viruses.
